Joshua Jarman:
I think Minnesota misses the playoffs this year. They lost their elite winger to cap hell from a buyout, and in exchange they got a rookie.
They lost their 1B goaltender to cap hell as well, and they filled the spot with a young, unproven goaltender named Filip Gustavsson.
I don’t expect Hartman to do nearly as well as he did last year, since he was carried by Kaprizov.
Because of this, their depth compared to last year is lacking.
The other teams in their division that are making it are the avalanche (lock), the blues, the jets (new coaching turns things around), and then the stars and canucks from the pacific.
At least one of the stars, canucks, and wild has to miss, and the other two did very well in an extremely tightly
contested playoff race last year and have only gotten better while the wild lost a considerable amount.

Joshua Jarman: I think Carolina misses the playoffs this year. They lost their
elite goaltending to a bad trade and free agency, and in exchange they got a wild card
and a solid backup. They lost their star defenseman to free agency as well, and they
filled the spot with a toxic locker room presence and a 2nd pairing defender. They also
lack depth compared to last year with the loss of McLovin'.
The other teams in their division that are making it are the islanders (lock), the
rangers, the flyers (alternating year syndrome), and then the pens and caps. At least
one of the pens, caps, and canes has to miss, and the other two did very well in an
extremely tightly contested division last year and haven't changed too much about their
team while the canes lost a considerable amount.

Vaylou Vinayagasothy: I think this will be the last year for the Arizona Coyotes
as a NHL franchise. With Glendale terminating the arena lease, this signals the end of
hockey in Glendale. With the combination of lower arena attendance averages throughout
pre-covid hockey, a team that is destined to finish lower in the standings with how
this off-season unfolded, a team with a ton of cap to come in the near future, and
potential profitable suitors in other areas of the country, hockey will come to its
end in Glendale.

make it to the conference finals this year, can't say why - just feeling good about
the team.

Conor O'Croinin: I think that the New York Rangers will be challenging for top of the metropolitan division this year.
Although it’s one of the toughest divisions, players like Lafreniere and Kakko are primed for a breakout season and with a solid
goaltending duo and elite talent like Fox, Panarin, and Zibanejad NYR are the real deal.

Harinderpal Sekhon: My prediction for the upcoming season is that Darnell Nurse will put together a career season (even better than last year)
and get nominated for the Norris trophy. This may be wishful thinking with his gigantic contract kicking in after this season, but I really believe Nurse
has it in him to be a top three defender in the league this year.

Ben O'Croinin: To get the season started, myself and the other execs are going to be submitting our bold predictions for this season
(feel free to submit your own as well). Here is my prediction:
The Seattle Kraken will be just as successful as Vegas were in their inaugural season. The defensive unit that Seattle has assembled is just too strong to miss the playoffs.
They are also built like a team who can go far in the playoffs, maybe even all the way to the final.

Vaylou Vinayagasothy: Now that we are past the midway point of the 2021 Season, what team is the biggest surprise so far this season?
For me, Buffalo Sabres, and their outright free fall this season. A team that took a swing at Taylor Hall, and a team
who were hoping to be fighting for a playoff spot, sitting bottom of the NHL. With stars like Dahlin, Eichel, Hall, Reinhart, and Cozens
and decent depth players like Mittelstadt, Montour, Sheahan, and a decent goaltender in Ullmark, the Sabres, on paper,
should not be last place. But they are.
A team that is lacking an identity and resolve of more successful teams, a last place finish should signal a full
rebuild to this current "rebuild".
No one imagined the Sabres below the Senators and the Red Wings. Changes throughout the organization are coming,
to get a team that used to be consistent playoff performers back into the post-season.

Mehul Pal: Although many have doubted my impeccable predicting ability, against all the odds both the Stars and Islanders seem to be moving on to the conference finals. However given their lackluster playing ability, it's almost certain that the next stage will be their last. You heard it here first - Vegas v Tampa in the stanley cup final.

Bennett Piercy: I don't like the move from Montreal. I think it's good business to spend relatively little on your goalies since the correlation between goalie salary and performance is so weak. $15 mil on a tandem is wild, but even then I'd rather nab Holtby, Markstrom, Khudobin, or Lehner in free agency than trade for Allen.
4:16pm
09/02/2020
Harinderpal Sekhon: In my opinion this is a good pick up for Montreal but with almost $15 million in cap space dedicated
to goaltenders next year I wonder if they will regret this when it comes time to renew contracts.
St. Louis is taking a gamble not keeping Allen, putting all their faith in Binnington despite his awful playoffs this year.

Conor O'Croinin: A trade has occured between Montreal and St. Louis.

Ben O'Croinin: Arizona is stripped of their 2020 2nd round pick and 2021 1st round pick
due to violation of the league's combine testing policy. -PRNHL
Arizona did admit they conducted physical testing on draft eligible players before the combine.
This is a very strict ruling but it sets a precedent to prevent future violations.

Conor O'Croinin: In my opinion this is a huge overpay for Kapanen by Pittsburgh.
The Penguins lose arguably their fourth best prospect in Hallander, as well as a first round pick.
This is not good business for a team on the decline.
This trade frees up valuable cap space for Toronto as well as gives them a first round pick in this years draft, which they didn't have before.
Although Kapanen could become a key player in the near future for the Penguins, once Crosby, Malkin, and Letang have retired the future does not look bright,
with Pittsburgh only picking in the first round of the draft once from 2015-2021, barring future trades.

Ben O'Croinin: A trade has occured between Pittsburgh and Toronto.
To Pittsburgh: Kasperi Kapanen (RW), Jesper Lindgren (D), and Pontus Aberg (LW).

Conor O'Croinin: Tampa Bay Lightning defeats Columbus Blue Jackets in game one in a fifth overtime.
It was the fourth longest game in NHL history and longest game since 2000.
Joonas Korpisalo set an NHL record for most saves in a game with 85, and still lost.
Seth Jones sets the record for most ice time in a game with 65:06.
