Hello prospective NHL analyst!

My name is Vaylou Vinayagasothy, and I am the President of the NHL Analysts Club. We are onto our 3rd year as a club, with this year being our second year with in-person meetings. We welcome all people, no matter your level of hockey knowledge or which team you support.

This year it is our plan to meet in person as a club 2 times a month to watch, analyze, and predict games. These live watch games will be held on campus The date, time, and location will be announced on our discord server and via email prior to the date. During these games we will make live predictions based on our game.

The primary goal of our club is to create a fun and welcoming environment where we can meet new people and enjoy watching hockey. The secondary goal of our club is to provide a platform for healthy competition amongst hockey enthusiasts to see who can earn the most points based on their predictions.

This year, we have revamped our predictions setup to include more team oriented predictions, and a better way to track your picks. We also revamped our watches to include more engagement as well as more excitement for hockey.
Our entire club is run through our discord server, so please join through the following link if you haven’t done so already: discord.gg/H7WSuxn

The club website contains the overall leaderboard where we keep track of how many points each person has. There is also a monthly leaderboard to promote continued competition throughout the year.

Additionally, the club is running a fantasy hockey league this season through Yahoo fantasy hockey. The league is free to join but you had to be an active member of the club before the season started to participate. You don’t need any previous fantasy hockey experience; many people had never played fantasy hockey before.

To join the club there is a mandatory $15 fee each semester. This fee is to be put entirely towards pizza and overall club maintenance, so you will be getting your money’s worth. The fee is payable via eTransfer or in-person via cash given to a club executive. To send a $15 eTransfer please use the club’s official email nhlanalystsclub@gmail.com. You will be listed as an official member only after the $15 fee is paid for the semester, but you can still participate in the meantime.

Hockey is one of the hardest sports to predict in the world, with even our most experienced analysts predicting around 60% of the games correctly. This percentage shows that you don’t need extensive hockey knowledge to be competitive with your predictions, and we hope this encourages those who are new to the sport and want to learn more about Canada’s most popular game.

If you have any questions, send us an email at nhlanalystsclub@gmail.com.

Thank you and welcome to the club,

Vaylou Vinayagasothy

Meet Your Execs

Vaylou Vinayagasothy- President

My name is Vaylou Vinayagasothy and I'm a fourth year math major. This year I will be your President for NHLAC, with this being my second year as apart of the NHLAC Executive Team.
This year I have lots planned for our members to have a memorable experience with us during their time at UofA, including revamped live watches, more opportunity for prizes and engagment, and more variety of social events. Stay tuned!
I didn't get into hockey until 2010. Simply, I just saw hockey playing on the TV and instantly got hooked. Once I realized Edmonton had a hockey team, I naturally stuck with the Oilers. I also spend my free time watching soccer as well, with my favorite team being Manchester United.
Feel free to reach out to me anytime, anywhere if you want to learn more about the club, hockey, or the UofA in general. I look forward to meeting all of you and growing the club!

Bennett Piercy - VP Internal

Hi everybody! My name is Bennett and I’m a Statistics major in my fourth year at UofA. I love all things hockey, particularly the advanced stats, analysis, hot takes, armchair GMing, and of course, my beloved Calgary Flames! (Gaudreau and Tkachuk may be gone, but I’m still here).
This is my third year of membership in the NHLAC, and my first year on the exec team. As VP Internal of the NHLAC, I’ll be running our revamped weekly hockey prediction game, as well as the new watch party prediction sheets, and watch party trivia breaks. I hope you love useless and obscure hockey knowledge, because I’ll be throwing it at you nonstop. I’m so excited to provide everyone with the best possible experience of the NHLAC this year, and I can’t wait to meet all of our new members and watch some hockey!
Here’s to a year of hot takes panning out, and pizza being pineapple-free.

Isaiah Solcruz- VP Social

Hello everyone, my name is Isaiah Solcruz and I'm in my 2nd year of my Bachelor of Education. This however may be changing next year, who doesn't love someone who doesn't know what they're doing with their life? I will be VP Social, and this is my first year on the exec team hoping to make an impact on everyone in the club!
I will ensure this year that we will have a great, inclusive, fun, community amongst each other. I want to build a great community through our watch parties, and other outings as well. I will try to build an awesome social media presence for us to ensure our engagement will be great!
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and I grew up watching hockey cheering for the Edmonton Oilers until the Winnipeg Jets came back in 2011. Now, both teams are the source of my joy, and pain. However, I'm an avid sports fan, watching all the major sport leagues, with my favorite teams being the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), Boston Celtics (NBA), Toronto Blue Jays (MLB).
I am excited for this year, and the great things to come along with it. Do not hesitate to contact me with any comments, questions or concerns! I will be here to chat about any topic on your mind! I am looking forward to meeting you all!

Bradford Sonnenberg - VP External

Hey, I'm Bradford - I'm a second year poli-sci student at UAlberta and an unabashed Devin Shore stan

Gracen Glover - VP Finance

I’m the VP Finance executive currently in my fourth year of sciences. My favourite teams are the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks (I know how it sounds). Also a giant Raptors and Blue Jays fan!
I look forward to meeting you all and for a fun school year!
